Philpan Diving Resort - Anilao

Last Friday night, we climbed Mt. Gulugod Baboy and when we went down the following day, we rent a cottage at Philpan Diving Resort.

Cottage rental is P300 and there's an entrance fee of P60/head. You can also rent an air conditioned room for P2,500 if you want to stay for a night. The room can accommodate up to 4 persons.

More information about Philpan Diving Resort here. But according the the resort caretaker, the site is no longer updated. They no longer offer diving packages.

Here are some other activities you may do while at Philpan Diving Resort.

Sombrero Island
Sombrero Island

Rent a motorized boat and go to Sombrero Island or Maricaban Island (Tingloy, Batangas). Boat rental cost about P2,000 and there's a P150 entrance fee at Sombrero Island. The island has a small white sand beach where you can enjoy swimming.

Maricaban, Tingloy Batangas

We decided to go to Maricaban Island, which has a longer sea shore and white sand beach too. They only charge P70/head.

  1. instead of renting a cottage at philpan dive resort, is it allowed if we pitch a tent?

  2. I'm not sure. But pitching tent there isn't ideal.

  3. after trekking @ Gulugod Baboy, can we spend a night @ either Sombrero or Maricaban? Do they have available cottages there or can we set up tents there? Are there facilities in the said island/s? Appreciate your response. Thank you in advance.

  4. Yes, but would be costly due to boat arrangements. Not sure if it's allowed in Sombrero but it's definitely possible in Maricaban. Better to bring tents.

  5. Philpan Diving Resort's website is accurate. Philpan offers MANY dive packages. Not sure where the person who wrote the article got their information, but they're mistaken. I go diving at Philpan all the time.

  7. I don't know about how the staff of PhilPan accommodated most people but in my case and my companions, our stay there was totally a disaster. As what one mountaineer who was with us said, "It was the worst experience I've ever had". They were so rude and totally they were money-sharks! We wanted to visit Sombrero Island and since we were new to the place, we waited for the boat at PhilPan Beach Resort. We were walking down the road towards the resort when the staff stopped us saying that we were not allowed to pass because there was an entrance fee if we stayed even a few minutes for the boat. They said we can only pass free if we board the boat right away without a second delay. But the boat was not there yet. They were trying to tell us as well that people before us would use their bathrooms to wash and pay 60php. We were like, "We are still on our way. Why nag on us right now about that?" They wanted to contract us, we understood that about business, but they did it in a defensive way, like a hen protecting its eggs. They did not even allow us to wait for the boat near the shore. Even when we were standing in a public road. Of course, the road is not that easy to climb up and down, back and forth. Most un-welcoming. The staff's final words were, "Ano naman ginansya namin sa inyo?"

Another, if we are not mistaken, Sombrero Island is a government-owned island. Last February, two of our companions went to the place and were not asked for any fees. Our group was composed of around 30+ people. When we were about to leave, a man asked for the entrance fee from us. Our leaders were shocked because based on the internet and even from their experience last February, there was no entrance fee. The impression was that since they saw how many we were, they could gain so much from us. They won't let us climb the boat until we paid. It was threatening.

And finally, to appease the staff at PhilPan, we decided to pay 60php to use their bathrooms. When we were fixing our things, we could still hear the staff complaining and saying nasty things about our group. It was very hostile considering that we were already clients. They were only a table away from us but they were still rude at saying negative things about us. One of us told them they should pay us even a little respect like not bad-mouthing us when we could hear them. If they have complaints, they should talk to us directly. She also told them that we are not going back to that place. The staff replied, "Eh di wag na kayong bumalik dito!" It was the worst experience ever! I don't want to generalize the people of Batangas but if they want their tourism to improve, they should fix that kind of behavior from their locals. It was quite disgusting. I certainly won't recommend PHILPAN RESORT to both Filipinos and foreigners. Maghanap na lang kayo ng ibang resort. Wag lang dito.

P.S The man in Sombrero Island said the island had been purchased already and is a private property. Please confirm that statement. If ever that's true then, this person who purchased it has the money to buy an island but could not put up a signage that says, "Private Property. Please Pay an Entrance Fee."
